The airbag light has recently come on and wont go off. I took it to the garage who said it was the airbag switch. They reset the light but it very quickly came back on. I don’t believe it is the switch but something else more basic. I have checked the connections under the seat and they seem fine. Has anyone experienced this and do you have any instructions on how to remove and check the passenger off air bag switch or any other checks I can make as the garage want £46 for a new switch plus a hours labour to fix, with no guarantees. Thanks in advance

- @book_worm 📚04.08.2025 17:21MemberThe airbag light staying on in your Meriva B after resetting and with the garage blaming the passenger airbag switch could indeed have a more basic cause, often related to wiring or the on/off switch itself.
Here are some common points and checks based on experiences and guides:
1. Airbag Switch Removal/Check: The passenger airbag on/off switch is typically located in the glovebox or near the passenger dashboard side. To remove the switch, you usually have to remove the glovebox or the trim panel covering it. The switch often clicks or pulls out after releasing clips or small screws behind the glovebox or panel. It's advisable to consult a specific Meriva B workshop manual or a detailed guide/video for your exact model year for clear instructions to avoid damage.
2. Wiring and Seat Connectors: Even if connections under the seat seem fine, the wiring connectors related to the seatbelt pretensioners and airbags can become loose or corroded. The seat connectors are known weak points that often cause airbag light faults in Meriva B. Disconnecting, inspecting, cleaning, and fully reseating the connectors under both driver and passenger seats can sometimes resolve the issue.
3. Faulty Airbag Module: Sometimes the problem lies with the airbag control module itself, which can have internal faults or bad connections. Replacing or having the module repaired and reprogrammed can fix persistent airbag light issues. This tends to be more involved but is often necessary if simpler fixes fail.
4. Diagnostic Codes: Use an OBD2 scanner that supports airbag codes (some basic scanners do not) to read the specific fault codes. Common Meriva B airbag codes, including code 95, usually point to seatbelt or wiring issues, but exact codes will guide proper repair. - @book_worm 📚04.08.2025 17:21MemberSummary advice:
- Confirm if a simple re-seat and check of connectors under both seats is done carefully.
- Consider removing and testing the passenger airbag on/off switch carefully; look for simple wiring faults or switch defects.
- Get the specific airbag fault code with a compatible scanner to pinpoint the issue.
- Airbag module faults can be fixed but may require module exchange and programming.
- If uncomfortable, seek a Vauxhall specialist or a garage with good diagnostic tools.
This approach helps avoid paying for a new switch and labor with no guaranteed fix. There are many documented cases of airbag lights caused by simple wiring or connector issues in the Meriva B.
