Replacement: anti roll bar links – Mercedes W211. AUTODOC recommends:
Replace the stabiliser links on Mercedes W211 in pairs.
The replacement procedure is identical for both stabiliser links on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: anti roll bar links – Mercedes W211. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mercedes W211
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Clean the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork with the lower control arm.
Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 7
Unscrew the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork with the lower control arm.
Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 9
Detach the bottom part of the shock strut.
Step 10
Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the control arm. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12
Take out the stabiliser link fastener. Use a crowbar.
Step 13
Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
Step 14
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 15
Remove the stabilizer rod.
Step 16
Clean the mounting seats of the stabiliser link. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 17
Ιnstall the transverse stabilizer link.
Step 18
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 19
Install the rod fastening to the stabilizer and tighten it. Use a crowbar. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 130 Nm torque.
Step 20
Tighten the stabiliser link fastener. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 21
Attach the bottom part of the shock strut. Use a crowbar.
Step 22
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 23
Screw in the fasteners connecting the suspension strut fork to the lower control arm.
Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #22. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 24
Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 25
Tighten the fastening bolt that connects the shock absorber fork to the lower control arm.
Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #22. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 165 Nm torque.
Step 26
Tighten the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar. Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 130 Nm torque.
Step 27
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
Replacement: anti roll bar links – Mercedes W211. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 28
Treat all joints of the stabiliser link. Use copper grease.
Step 29
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 30
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: anti roll bar links – Mercedes W211. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 31
Install the wheel.
Replacement: anti roll bar links – Mercedes W211. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 32
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 33
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 nm torque.
Step 34
Remove the jacks and chocks.
