Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). Tools you might need:

                        Wire brush
                      
                        WD-40 spray
                      
                        Multipurpose grease
                      
                        Drive socket # 13 
                      
                        Combination spanner #13
                      
                        Combination spanner #19
                      
                        XZN socket bit # 12 
                      
                        XZN socket bit # 18 
                      
                        Torx bit T30
                      
                        Wheel impact socket #17
                      
                        Tap wrench
                      
                        Ratchet wrench
                      
                        Torque wrench
                      
                        Crow bar
                      
                        Rubber mallet
                      
                        Wheel chock

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). AUTODOC recommends:

Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.

Step 3

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Step 4

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 5

Remove the wheel.
Step 6

Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.

Step 7

Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #19.
Step 8

Remove the brake caliper.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). AUTODOC experts recommend:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.
Step 9

Remove the brake pads.
Step 10

Treat the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11

Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use XZN #12. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 12

Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 13

Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 14

Remove the brake disc.
Step 15

Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a crowbar. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 16

Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use XZN #18. Use a tap wrench.
Step 17

Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
Step 18

Clean the guiding part of the stub axle. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19

Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
Step 20

Tighten the hub. Use XZN #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 70 Nm torque.+90°

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). Tip from AUTODOC:
The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 21

Install the hub bearing protection cap. Use a rubber mallet.
Step 22

Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk. Use a multipurpose grease.
Step 23

Install the brake disc.
Step 24

Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 4 Nm torque.
Step 25

Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 26

Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use XZN #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 27

Install the brake pads.
Step 28

Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #19. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 29

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use a multipurpose grease.
Step 30

Install the wheel.

Replacement: wheel bearing – VW PASSAT ALLTRACK (3G5). Professionals recommend:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 31

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 32

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 33

Remove the jacks and chocks.
