Replacement: rear upper arm – BMW 1 (E87). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the right and left upper control arms.
- Please note: all work on the car – BMW 1 (E87) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. BMW 1 (E87) - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 7
Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8Remove the fastening bolt.Step 9
Detach the suspension arm from the rear knuckle. - Step 10Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a flat screwdriver.Step 11
Unscrew the arm fastening to the beam. Use a combination spanner #18 (2 pieces). - Step 12Remove the rear fastener of the control arm.Step 13
Remove the rear upper arm. - Step 14
Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 15
Mount the rear upper arm.Replacement: rear upper arm – BMW 1 (E87). AUTODOC experts recommend:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts. - Step 16Install the rear fastener of the control arm.Step 17
Tighten the arm fastening to the beam. Use a combination spanner #18 (2 pieces). Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 100 Nm torque.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
