Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ SL (R230). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ SL (R230). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. MERCEDES-BENZ SL (R230)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Unscrew the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 7Remove the plastic car body protective cover.
- Step 8Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Unscrew the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 12Remove the fastening bolts. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Remove the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 15Install a new arm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: rear suspension lower trailing arm – MERCEDES-BENZ SL (R230). Use only new bolts and nuts for installation.
- Step 16Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 17Screw the fastener connecting the control arm to the subframe. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 18Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 19Screw in the fasteners connecting the control arm to the rear knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
