How to change rear shock absorbers on VOLKSWAGEN T5 TUTORIAL | AUTODOC

All the parts you need to replace – Shock Absorber for Multivan V (7HM, 7HN, 7HF, 7EF, 7EM, 7EN) and other VW models

Torque wrench

Replacement: shock absorbers – VW Multivan T5. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW Multivan T5 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Multivan T5
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 10Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Remove the fastening bolt.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW Multivan T5Step 12Remove the shock absorber.
- Step 13Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: shock absorbers – VW Multivan T5. Tip from AUTODOC:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
- Step 14Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.
- Step 15Install the fastening bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. VW Multivan T5For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
