Replacement: shock absorbers – VW California T5 Bus (7EC, 7EF, 7EG, 7HF). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW California T5 Bus (7EC, 7EF, 7EG, 7HF) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW California T5 Bus (7EC, 7EF, 7EG, 7HF)
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 9Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 10Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 11Remove the fastening bolt.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW California T5 Bus (7EC, 7EF, 7EG, 7HF)Step 12Remove the shock absorber.
- Step 13Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Replacement: shock absorbers – VW California T5 Bus (7EC, 7EF, 7EG, 7HF). Tip from AUTODOC:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
- Step 14Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.
- Step 15Install the fastening bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts. VW California T5 Bus (7EC, 7EF, 7EG, 7HF)For tightening the fasteners correctly, you have to jack up the suspension components to their working position.
