How to replace rear handbrake shoes on OPEL CORSA C [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Brake Shoes for Corsa C Hatchback (X01) and other OPEL models
Replacement: brake shoes – Opel Corsa C. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Perform the replacement of brake pads in complete set for each axis. This provides effective braking.
The replacement procedure is identical for all brake pads on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – Opel Corsa C – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 4
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Opel Corsa C
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7
Fully lower the parking brake lever.
Step 8
Clean the brake drum. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 9
Remove the hub bearing protection cap. Use a flat screwdriver. Use a hammer.
Replacement: brake shoes – Opel Corsa C. Tip:
Some cars are not equipped with wheel hub caps.
Step 10
Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut. Use a drive socket #27. Use a tap wrench.
Step 11
Remove the brake drum assembled with the wheel hub bearing.
Step 12
Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever. Use round-nose pliers. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 13
Take out brake pad retainer springs from the holes. Use pliers.
Step 14
Remove the brake pads retaining clips.
Use pliers. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 15
Remove the brake pads.
Replacement: brake shoes – Opel Corsa C. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the system. Examine the brake drum. Replace it if necessary.
Step 16
Remove the brake shoe adjuster. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 17
Insert the brake shoes adjusting mechanism. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 18
Install new brake pads.
Step 19
Install the brake pads retaining clips. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 20
Insert retaining springs into pin slots. Use round-nose pliers. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 21
Connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake lever. Use round-nose pliers. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 22
Install the brake drum assembled with the wheel hub bearing.
Step 23
Tighten the hub. Use a drive socket #27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 175 nm torque.
Step 24
Install the hub bearing protection cap. Use a hammer. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 25
Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 26
Treat the surface where the wheel rim contacts the brake drum. Use copper grease.
Step 27
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. Opel Corsa C
Step 28
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 29
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 nm torque.
Step 30
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Replacement: brake shoes – Opel Corsa C. Professionals recommend:
Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 31
Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.
Replacement: brake shoes – Opel Corsa C. Tip from AUTODOC:
Slow down smoothly for first 150-200 km after the brake pads replacement. Avoid unneccessary and sharp braking to a stop.
