Perform the replacement of brake pads in complete set for each axis. This provides effective braking.
The replacement procedure is identical for all brake pads on the same axle.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake pads – Mercedes W210. Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Open the bonnet.
Step 2
Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 4
Loosen the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a tap wrench.
Step 5
Raise the car.
AUTODOC recommends:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 6
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mercedes W210
Step 7
Remove the wheel.
Step 8
Clean the brake pads fasteners. Use a brake cleaner. Use a wire brush.
Step 9
Remove the brake pad pin. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 10
Remove the retaining spring of the brake pads.
Step 11
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 12
Remove the brake pads.
AUTODOC recommends:
Measure the brake disc thickness. Upon reaching the wear limit the part must be replaced.
Step 13
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake pads – Mercedes W210. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 14
Treat the brake caliper pistons. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 15
Wind back the brake caliper pistons. Use brake caliper wind back tool.
Step 16
Treat the surface of the brake pads that contacts the brake caliper. Use anti-squeal paste.
Step 17
Install new brake pads.
Step 18
Install the retaining spring of the brake pads.
Step 19
Install the brake pad pin. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
Step 20
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 21
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
Step 22
Install the wheel.
Replacement: brake disc and pads – Mercedes W210. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 23
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 24
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 25
Remove the jacks and chocks.
AUTODOC recommends:
Mercedes W210 – Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until it feels firm.Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and top up if necessary.
Step 26
Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 27
Close the bonnet.
AUTODOC recommends:
Slow down smoothly for first 150-200 km after the brake pads replacement. Avoid unneccessary and sharp braking to a stop.
