How to change rear brake discs and rear brake pads on KIA SORENTO BL TUTORIAL | AUTODOC
All the parts you need to replace – Brake Discs for SORENTO I (JC) and other KIA models
Replace the brake disks on the car KIA Sorento JC in complete set for each axis. Regardless of the state of components. This will ensure even braking.
The replacement procedure is identical for both brake disks on the same axle.
When changing the brake discs, always replace the brake pads.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake discs – KIA Sorento JC. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
Step 2
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 3
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 4
Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 5
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. KIA Sorento JC
Step 6
Remove the wheel.
Step 7
Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 8
Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 9
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 10
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 11
Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.
Replacement: brake discs – KIA Sorento JC. Tip:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 12
Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 13
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 14
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #14. Use a tap wrench.
Step 15
Remove the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 16
Remove the caliper bracket.
Step 17
Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 19
Extract the adjuster hole plug. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 20
Remove the brake disc.
Step 21
Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.
Step 22
Install the brake disc.
Step 23
Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 9 Nm torque.
Step 24
Move the parking brake shoes against the drum. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 25
Then install the plug into the adjuster hole. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 26
Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: brake discs – KIA Sorento JC. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 27
Remove the guide pins from the brake caliper.
Step 28
Clean the brake caliper guide pins.
Step 29
Treat the brake caliper guide pins. Use the brake caliper guide pin grease.
Step 30
Screw in the guide pins.
Step 31
Treat the fastening bolts. Use a sealant.
Step 32
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 33
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 34
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #14. Use a tap wrench. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 65 Nm torque.
Step 35
Install the brake pads.
Step 36
Treat the brake caliper piston. Use a brake cleaner.
Replacement: brake discs – KIA Sorento JC. AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 37
Press in the brake caliper piston. Use brake caliper wind back tool.
Step 38
Install the brake caliper and fix it.
Step 39
Install the fastening bolts (2 pieces).
Step 40
Tighten the brake caliper fasteners. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 41
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 42
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: brake discs – KIA Sorento JC. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 43
Install the wheel.

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. KIA Sorento JC
Step 44
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 45
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 46
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Replacement: brake discs – KIA Sorento JC. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.
Step 47
Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap. Close the hood.

Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.
