Replacement: brake caliper – SEAT ALTEA (5P1). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right brake calipers on the same axle.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: brake caliper – SEAT ALTEA (5P1). Take the following steps:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: brake caliper – SEAT ALTEA (5P1). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the parking brake bracket. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 8Press the parking brake actuator lever on the brake caliper.
- Step 9Release the parking brake cable. Use water pump pliers.
- Step 10Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the brake caliper and to the brake circuit pipe. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 11Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
- Step 12Put a container for gathering brake fluid beneath.
- Step 13Unscrew the brake pipe from the brake hose. Use a combination spanner #11.
- Step 14Loosen the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11.
- Step 15Remove the brake hose retaining clip. Use a crowbar.
- Step 16Detach the brake pipe from the brake hose.
- Step 17Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #15.
- Step 18Remove the brake caliper.Replacement: brake caliper – SEAT ALTEA (5P1). Professionals recommend:When replacing the brake caliper, it is recommended to check the brake hose for damages and, if necessary, to replace it with a new one. When replacing a brake caliper it is recommended to replace brake pads, check the state of the brake discs and replace them with new ones if necessary.If no new guide pins were supplied in a kit with the new brake calipers, use the old pins.
- Step 19Unscrew the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11.
- Step 20Detach the brake pipe from the brake caliper.Step 21Treat the brake pipe. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: brake caliper – SEAT ALTEA (5P1). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 22Reattach the brake pipe to the brake caliper.
- Step 23Screw in the fastener connecting the brake pipe to the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11.
- Step 24Install the brake caliper and fix it. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a combination spanner #15.
- Step 25Treat the brake hose. Treat the brake pipe. Use a brake cleaner.Replacement: brake caliper – SEAT ALTEA (5P1). Tip from AUTODOC experts:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 26Reattach the brake pipe to the brake hose.
