Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Before getting down to work, start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.
Step 4
Shut off the engine.
Step 5
Unscrew the bracket for the engine pipes. Use Torx T27. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6
Detach the engine wiring harness. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 7
Detach the engine wiring harness connectors. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 8
Detach the glow plug wiring connectors. Use needle nose pliers.
Step 9
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 10
Treat the glow plugs. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 11
Unscrew the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use a torque wrench.
Step 12
Clean dirt, dust and debris from inside the spark plug wells.
Step 13
Remove the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use needle nose pliers.
Step 14
Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease.
Please note!
Do not touch the heating element as fingerprints may cause malfunction.
Step 15
Install new glow plugs to their mounting seats. Use needle nose pliers.
Step 16
Tighten the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 18 nm torque.
Replacement: glow plugs – VW Passat B7 saloon. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
Step 17
Attach the glow plug wiring connectors.
Step 18
Treat the engine wiring harness connectors. Use dielectric grease.
Step 19
Attach the engine wiring harness connectors.
Step 20
Attach the engine wiring harness.
Step 21
Screw in the bracket for the engine pipes. Use Torx T27. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 nm torque.
Step 22
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 23
Shut off the engine.
Step 24
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 25
Close the hood.
