Replacement: glow plugs – CITROËN XSARA (N1). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- The replacement procedure is identical for all glow plugs.
- Please note: all work on the car – CITROËN XSARA (N1) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the hood.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Before getting down to work, start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature.Step 4Shut off the engine.Step 5
Unscrew the negative battery terminal fastener. Use a combination spanner #10. - Step 6
Disconnect the earth cable terminal from the battery. - Step 7
Loosen the air hose clamps. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 8
Remove the air duct. - Step 9
Cover the intake manifold inlet with a towel. - Step 10
Unscrew the fasteners that connect the power cables to the glow plugs. Use a drive socket #8. Use a ratchet wrench. - Step 11
Remove the fastening nuts. Use a telescoping magnet. - Step 12
Remove the power cable. Use long nose pliers. - Step 13
Clean the glow plug mounting seats. - Step 14
Unscrew the glow plugs. Use the spark plug socket #12. Use a torque wrench.Replacement: glow plugs – CITROËN XSARA (N1). Tip from AUTODOC experts:The glow plugs can get stuck over time and break apart when removed.Use a torque wrench to loosen the parts to avoid exceeding the breakaway torque specified by the car manufacturer.If you have reached the breakaway torque but the glow plugs still won't unscrew, you need to consult a professional: breakage of the parts can result in costly engine repairs. - Step 15
Remove the glow plugs. Use long nose pliers. - Step 16
Treat the glow plugs. Use high-temperature ceramic grease. - Step 17
Install new glow plugs to their mounting seats. Use long nose pliers.
