How to change fuel filter BMW E36 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Fuel Filter for 3 Saloon (E36) and other BMW models
Replacement: fuel filter – BMW E36. Tip from AUTODOC:
Ensure adequate ventilation of the workplace. Fuel vapors are poisonous.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: fuel filter – BMW E36. Take the following steps:
Step 1
Open the fuel door.
Step 2
Unscrew the fuel filler cap.
Step 3
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 4
Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.
Step 5
Unscrew the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 6
Remove the plastic car body protective cover.
Step 7
Loosen the fastening clamps of the fuel filter pipes. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 8
Detach the tubes from the fuel filter.
Step 9
Unscrew the fuel filter bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 10
Prepare a container for fluids.
Step 11
Clean the fuel lines. Use a nylon cleaning brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 12
Disconnect the fuel supply lines from the fuel filter.
Step 13
Remove the fuel filter.

Be careful! Fuel may leak from the filter housing and hoses.

Install a new fuel filter.

Remember, it is important not to mix up the input and output of the filter. Arrows on the filter indicate the direction of fuel flow.During installation, take care to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the fuel filter housing.Take care to only use quality filters.
Step 15
Connect the fuel lines to the new fuel filter.
Step 16
Tighten the fastening clamps of the fuel filter pipes. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 17
Clean the fuel lines. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 18
Screw in the fuel filter mounting bracket. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 19
Attach the pipe to the fuel filter.
Step 20
Reinstall the plastic car body protective cover.
Step 21
Screw in the fasteners of the plastic car body protective cover. Use a drive socket #8. Use a drive socket #10. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 22
Lower the car.
Step 23
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 24
Tighten the fuel filler cap.
Step 25
Close the fuel door.

Before starting off, switch the ignition on and off several times. This should be done to activate the fuel pump to make it pump fuel through the fuel system.
Step 26
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 27
Shut off the engine.
