All the parts you need to replace – Wheel Bearing for Astra F Caravan (T92) and other OPEL models
Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_) car.
The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
Please note: all work on the car – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 3
Raise the car.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). Professionals recommend:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.
AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_)
Step 5
Remove the wheel.
Step 6
Remove the wheel hub nut cap. Use a crowbar. Use a hammer.
Step 7
Remove the cotter pin securing the hub nut. Use a crowbar. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 8
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_)
Step 9
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 10
Lower the car.
Step 11
Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 12
Raise the car.
AUTODOC recommends:
If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
Step 13
Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Step 14
Remove the wheel.
Step 15
Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16
Remove the wheel bearing washer. Use a crowbar.
Step 17
Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
Step 18
Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 19
Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use HEX No.H10. Use a tap wrench. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 20
Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur.Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
Step 21
Clean the brake disc fastener. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 22
Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 23
Remove the brake disc.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). AUTODOC experts recommend:
If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
Step 24
Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 25
Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 26
Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Use a ball joint puller.
Step 27
Clean the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 28
Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 29
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 30
Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 31
Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 32
Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 33
Unscrew the ABS sensor fastener. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 34
Remove the fastening bolt.
Step 35
Disconnect the ABS sensor.
Step 36
Remove the fastening bolts.
Step 37
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
Step 38
Detach the driveshaft from the steering knuckle.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
Step 39
Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
Step 40
Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 41
Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 42
Remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 43
Clean the wheel hub bearing retaining ring.
Step 44
Clean the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 45
Unscrew the fasteners of the brake disc cover. Use a Phillips screwdriver.
Step 46
Remove the brake disc cover.
Step 47
Remove the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 48
Press out the wheel hub bearing. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 49
Press out the inner bearing race that is remaining on the hub. Use a bearing separator.
Step 50
Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 51
Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 52
Press-fit the new bearing into the steering knuckle. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Check to make sure the wheel hub bearing is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
Step 53
Install the wheel hub bearing retaining ring. Use circlip pliers.
Step 54
Install the brake disc cover.
Step 55
Tighten the fasteners of the brake disc back plate. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 Nm torque.
Step 56
Clean the wheel hub mounting seat. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
Step 57
Treat the wheel hub mounting seat. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 58
Press-fit a new bearing into the wheel hub. Use a bush and bearing driver set.
Step 59
Clean the mounting seats of the shock strut. Clean the mounting seat of the tie rod end. Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint. Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. Use copper grease.
Step 60
Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle.
Step 61
Install the drive shaft.

Install the steering knuckle.
Step 63
Install the fastening bolt.
Step 64
Install the fastening bolt.

Connect the ABS sensor.

Tighten the fastener that connects the ABS sensor to the steering knuckle. Use HEX No.H5. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 8 Nm torque.

Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle.

Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 69
Screw the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #13. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 70
Screw in the fastener that connects the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 71
Fit the wheel bearing washer.
Step 72
Screw the nut of the drive shaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 73
Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use ceramic grease.
Step 74
Install the brake disc.
Step 75
Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use a Phillips screwdriver. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 7 Nm torque.
Step 76
Install the brake caliper bracket.
Step 77
Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use HEX No.H10. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 95 Nm torque.
Step 78
Tighten the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
Step 79
Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 35 Nm torque.
Step 80
Tighten the lower fasteners of the suspension strut. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 90 Nm torque.+45°
Step 81
Treat the shock strut fasteners. Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Treat the CV axle fastener. Treat the fasteners of the ball joint. Use copper grease.
Step 82
Install the wheel.

Important! Hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts. OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_)
Step 83
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.

Lower the car.
Step 85
Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 130 Nm torque.
Step 86
Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use a drive socket #30. Use a tap wrench.
Step 87
Tighten the drive shaft nut. Use a drive socket #30. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 20 Nm torque.+90°

Raise the car.

Install a new hub nut cotter pin. Use a crowbar.

Install the cap of the hub nut. Use a rubber mallet.

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use ceramic grease.
Step 94
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 95
Install the wheel.
AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 96
Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 97
Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 110 Nm torque.
Step 98
Remove the jacks and chocks.
Replacement: wheel bearing – OPEL ASTRA F Estate (51_, 52_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel significant resistance.
