How to change a front shock strut on RENAULT MEGANE SCENIC [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: suspension strut – Renault Megane Scenic. AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Both shock struts of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock struts of the front suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – Renault Megane Scenic – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.
- Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 3Unscrew the fasteners of the cowl grille. Use Torx T20. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 4Remove the cowl grille seal.
- Step 5Remove the wiper cowl grille located on the right side.
- Step 6Remove the retainers of the shock strut mount cap.
- Step 7Remove the suspension strut mount cap.
- Step 8Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 9Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 10Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 11Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 12Raise the car.Replacement: suspension strut – Renault Megane Scenic. Tip:If you are using a jack, make sure it rests on a flat surface without any unevenness.Be sure to additionally secure the car with jack stands.
- Step 13Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Renault Megane Scenic
- Step 14Remove the wheel.
- Step 15Clean the fastener of the bracket that connects the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 16Unscrew the fastener that connects the brake hose bracket to the suspension strut. Use a combination spanner #10.
- Step 17Remove the brake hose bracket.
- Step 18Clean the fasteners connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 19Unscrew the fasteners connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #21. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 20Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 21Remove the fastening bolts.
- Step 22Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut.
- Step 23Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount.AUTODOC recommends:Renault Megane Scenic – To avoid injury, hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts.
- Step 24Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 25Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: suspension strut – Renault Megane Scenic. Professionals recommend:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 26Compress the spring.
- Step 27Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a 21-mm strut nut socket. Use HEX No.H6.
- Step 29Remove the top strut mount.
- Step 30Release the coil spring.
- Step 31Remove the spring.
- Step 32Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: suspension strut – Renault Megane Scenic. Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
- Step 33Remove the old shock absorber from the hydraulic coil spring compressor.AUTODOC recommends:Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
- Step 34Install the new shock absorber on the hydraulic coil spring compressor.
- Step 35Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
- Step 36Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 37Compress the spring.Replacement: suspension strut – Renault Megane Scenic. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 38Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
- Step 39Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a 21-mm strut nut socket. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 nm torque.
- Step 40Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
