Replacement: front lower arm – BMW Z4 (E89). AUTODOC recommends:
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right lower control arms.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: front lower arm – BMW Z4 (E89). Use the following procedure:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: front lower arm – BMW Z4 (E89). Tip from AUTODOC:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean all joints of the arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: front lower arm – BMW Z4 (E89). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.Wear protective goggles.
- Step 7Unscrew the arm fastening to the beam. Use a combination spanner #18 (2 pieces).
- Step 8Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 9Unscrew the ball joint fastening to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 10Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.Replacement: front lower arm – BMW Z4 (E89). Professionals recommend:Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
- Step 11Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
- Step 12Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21.
- Step 13Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
- Step 14Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 15Remove the arm.Step 16Clean the mounting seats and the thread of the suspension arm. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 17Install a new arm.Replacement: front lower arm – BMW Z4 (E89). AUTODOC experts recommend:During the installation process, use only new bolts and nuts.Do not damage the ball joint cover.
- Step 18Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 19Connect the lower arm to the steering knuckle.
- Step 20Screw the fastener connecting the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #21.
