Replacement: coil springs – SKODA FABIA (6Y2). AUTODOC recommends:
- Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
- All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: coil springs – SKODA FABIA (6Y2). Tools you might need:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Loosen the upper fastener of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 4Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 5Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 6Remove the hub bearing protection cap.Please note!Some cars are not equipped with wheel hub caps.
- Step 7Unscrew the hub lock nut. Use drive 12-point socket #36. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 8Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 9Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SKODA FABIA (6Y2)
- Step 10Remove the wheel.
- Step 11.1Clean the fasteners connecting the stabiliser link to the shock strut, and those connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle.Step 11.2Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 12Unscrew the nut and remove the stabilizer rod from the shock strut. Use a combination spanner #16. Use HEX No.H5. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 14Detach the brake hose from the shock strut. Use a crowbar.
- Step 15Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 16Release the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a special drive socket to remove the shock absorber. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 17Clean the ball joint mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 18Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 19Prop up the steering knuckle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
- Step 20Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm. Use a crowbar.
- Step 21Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use drive 12-point socket #36.
- Step 22Treat the mounting seat of the driveshaft on the steering knuckle. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 23Pull the drive shaft out of the steering knuckle and lifting it, tie to the body. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.AUTODOC recommends:Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked).
- Step 24Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a pin punch. Use a hammer.
- Step 25Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.Replacement: coil springs – SKODA FABIA (6Y2). AUTODOC experts recommend:Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms. Make sure that the steering knuckle is not released from load.
- Step 26Unscrew the top fastening of the shock strut mount. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. SKODA FABIA (6Y2)
- Step 27Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 28Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – SKODA FABIA (6Y2). AUTODOC recommends:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 29Compress the spring.
- Step 30Clean the shock absorber rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 31Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #21. Use HEX No.H7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 32Remove the shock absorber mount, boot and bump stop.
- Step 33Release the coil spring.
- Step 34Remove the spring.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: coil springs – SKODA FABIA (6Y2). Carefully inspect the mount, the boot, and the bump stop of the shock absorber. Replace if necessary.
- Step 35Install the boot and a bump stop onto the shock absorber.
- Step 36Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 37Compress the spring.
- Step 38Install the upper strut mount and the strut mount bearing.
- Step 39Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #21. Use HEX No.H7. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.AUTODOC recommends:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
