Replacement: ABS sensor – VW PASSAT Variant (3B5). Tip:

All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: ABS sensor – VW PASSAT Variant (3B5). Use the following procedure:

Step 1

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Step 2

Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft. Use HEX No.H14. Use a tap wrench.
Step 3

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 4

Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

Step 5

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW PASSAT Variant (3B5)
Step 6

Remove the wheel.
Step 7

Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring. Use a clip removal tool.
Step 8

Detach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 9

Clean the ABS sensor fastener. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10

Disconnect the ABS sensor. Use pincers.
Step 11

Clean the ABS sensor mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: ABS sensor – VW PASSAT Variant (3B5). After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 12

Treat the ABS sensor fastener. Use a multipurpose grease. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 13

Connect the ABS sensor.
Step 14

Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 15

Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use HEX No.H14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 16

Remove the fastening bolt.

Replacement: ABS sensor – VW PASSAT Variant (3B5). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
Make sure the ABS sensor is installed correctly.
Step 17

Install and tighten the drive shaft bolt. Use HEX No.H14. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 18

Connect the ABS sensor wiring.
Step 19

Treat the ABS sensor connector. Use dielectric grease.

Step 20

Attach the ABS sensor connector.
Step 21

Clean the wheel rim mounting seat. Use a wire brush.
Step 22

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 23

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 24

Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:
Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on the car. VW PASSAT Variant (3B5)
Step 25

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
Step 26

Lower the car.

Step 27

Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use HEX No.H14. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 115 Nm torque.+180°

Replacement: ABS sensor – VW PASSAT Variant (3B5). AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.
Step 28

Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use wheel impact socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
Step 29

Remove the jacks and chocks.
