Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). AUTODOC experts recommend:
- Check the condition of the coolant every time you replace the thermostat. Change the coolant if necessary.
- Please note: all work on the car – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the hood.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 3Unscrew the coolant reservoir cap.
- Step 4Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.Step 5Prepare a container for fluids.
- Step 6Disconnect the coolant pipe retaining clip. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 7Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). Tip from AUTODOC:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 8Drain the coolant from the engine.Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Caution! The coolant can be very hot.Wear gloves to prevent contact with hot liquid.All work should be done with the engine stopped.Wait until the coolant has completely flowed out of the drain hole.
- Step 9Attach the coolant hose.
- Step 10Connect the coolant pipe retaining clip.Step 11Lower the car.Step 12Unscrew the engine cover fastener. Use Torx T40. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 13Unscrew the oil filler plug.
- Step 14Remove the oil filler cap.
- Step 15Remove the engine cover.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). Do not use excessive force when removing the part as this may damage it.
- Step 16Install the oil filler cap.
- Step 17Tighten the oil filler cap.
- Step 18On the right side, detach the PCV valve hose from the engine cover. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 19Cover the PCV valve hole with a microfibre cloth to prevent dirt and foreign objects from getting into the system.
- Step 20Detach the mass air flow sensor connector.
- Step 21Disconnect the MAF sensor wiring. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 22Unscrew the clamp and fasteners on the air filter intake pipe. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 23Disconnect the air intake pipe from the air filter housing.
- Step 24Cover the throttle body with a microfibre towel to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the system.
- Step 25Remove the filter element from the filter housing.
- Step 26Prepare a container for fluids.
- Step 27Unplug the connector of the coolant temperature sensor.
- Step 28Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 29Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). Tip:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 30Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 31Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). Tip from AUTODOC experts:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 32Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 33Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). Tip from AUTODOC:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 34Loosen the coolant hose clamp. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 35Detach the coolant hose.Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). AUTODOC experts recommend:Caution! Coolant may leak out of the coolant lines and thermostat housing.
- Step 36Unscrew the thermostat housing fasteners. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 37Remove the thermostat housing together with the thermostat. Use a crowbar.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: engine thermostat – ALFA ROMEO GTV (916C_). To avoid damaging the part when removing it, do not use excessive force.
- Step 38Clean the mounting seats of the thermostat housing. Use a seal scraper. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 39Treat the thermostat housing mounting seat. Use a sealant.Step 40Install the new thermostat housing together with the thermostat.
- Step 41Tighten the thermostat housing fasteners. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 11 Nm torque.
- Step 42Attach the coolant hose.
- Step 43Secure the coolant hose clamp. Use a drive socket #7. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 44Attach the coolant hose.
