How to change air filter on BMW E46 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
All the parts you need to replace – Air Filter for 3 Saloon (E46) and other BMW models
Replacement: air filter – BMW E46. AUTODOC recommends:
Follow the terms, recommendations and requirements of the part operation provided by the manufacturer.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: air filter – BMW E46. Use the following procedure:
Step 1
Open the hood.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Remove the fasteners of the air duct housing. Use round-nose pliers.
Step 4
Detach the air duct housing from the air filter housing.
Step 5
Slide the filter cover clips.
Step 6
Take off the filter lid.
Step 7
Remove the filter element from the filter housing.
Step 8
Clean the air filter cover and housing.
Replacement: air filter – BMW E46. Tip:
Before cleaning the air filter cover and housing, cover the air duct parts, mass airflow sensor (if available), throttle valve with a clean cloth.
Step 9
Insert a new filter element into the filter housing. Make sure that the filter edge fits tight to the housing.
Replacement: air filter – BMW E46. Professionals recommend:
Check out the correct location of the filter element. Do not skew.Take care to only use quality filters.During installation, make sure to prevent dust and dirt from getting into the air filter housing.
Step 10
Reinstall the air filter cover. Fasten it.
Step 11
Lock the retaining clips of the air filter housing cover.
Step 12
Install the air duct housing.
AUTODOC recommends:
Be careful not to damage the air flow meter connected to the air filter housing upper cover on BMW E46.
Step 13
Install the air duct housing fasteners.
Step 14
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 15
Close the hood.
