Which is better - Mann or Bosch oil filters BMW 2500-3300 (E3) Saloon
- @Eartherry7906.04.2021 14:48MemberI always use Mann filters and I've been perfectly happy with them so far.
- @Evesuselet06.04.2021 14:51MemberI've used them all on my BMW over the past four years I've had it, usually once a year. On other cars I've had I only used Mann filters since they're popular generally. Then I tried Mahle, which is the OE brand, then I used Bosch, and now have Ridex ones. They're really all the same as far as I'm concerned. With the more expensive ones, you're just paying for snazzier packaging. The original filter will have been a Mahle, the same as with the fuel and pollen filters.
- @Molly Edwards04.06.2025 14:41MemberFor your BMW 323 E36, both Mann and Bosch oil filters are reputable, widely used brands, and the difference in price is generally smallāoften just a few pounds. User experiences and automotive forums suggest that both brands are reliable, with many users being perfectly happy with Mann filters and others finding Bosch or even Mahle (the original equipment manufacturer for BMW) to be equally good.
There is a general consensus that, for most regular use, the differences in filtration performance between Mann, Bosch, and Mahle are negligible. Some users have noted minor fit or finish issues with specific brands (such as uneven seals on Mann filters in rare cases), but these are not common complaints and do not indicate a significant quality difference. Mahle is often considered the original equipment (OE) choice for BMW, with Mann and Bosch being popular alternatives.
If you donāt have a strong preference and price is not a major concern, you can confidently choose Mannāespecially since youāve never tried it and have had no issues with Ridex in the past. If you want the closest to original equipment, Mahle is another excellent option. Bosch is also reliable, but if you have a personal dislike for their filters, thereās no compelling reason to choose them over Mann or Mahle for your E36.
Recommendation:
Choose Mann for a good balance of price and quality, or Mahle if you want the closest to original equipment. Bosch is fine but not necessary if you donāt prefer it. Ridex is also acceptable if you want to save money and have had no problems before.
I imagine itās just a matter of personal preference really, but would you recommend a Mann or Bosch oil filter?
Iām looking to get a fuel and oil filter for my BMW 323 E36.
Looking at Autodoc, in order of cheapest, it goes Ridex, Mann, Bosch. Iāve used Ridex ones before, never had Mann and I donāt really like Bosch.
Thereās usually only Ā£4 difference in price at most between the oil filters so thatās not a big issue, although I suppose it could end up being a fair bit more with all the filters and fluids.
