It is recommended to clean the throttle valve. If it is dirty, the fuel consumption may be higher, but I heard that there are cars in which you can’t clean the throttle since it comes with a special coating that can be washed off. I don’t know which one is installed on our cars...  I am as just curious as you if someone nows the way of cleaning, or just have throttle body cleaning experience to share

Throttle body cleaning is a maintenance procedure that can potentially impact your Seat Leon's fuel consumption. This process involves removing carbon deposits and dirt that accumulate over time in the throttle body, which is a component that controls airflow into your engine.

Throttle Body Cleaning Process for Seat Leon

The throttle body in your Seat Leon can accumulate dirt and carbon deposits over time, potentially affecting performance. Cleaning it is a relatively straightforward DIY task that many owners perform themselves.

For the 1.6 16v engine (codes AZD & BCB) in Seat Leon 1m models, there are specific tutorials available that demonstrate how to clean both the throttle body and EGR valve.

    Required Materials:
    - Throttle body cleaner spray
    - Soft-bristle brush or toothbrush
    - Clean rags or paper towels
    - Rubber gloves and eye protection
    - Basic tools for disassembly

    Cleaning Procedure:
    1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety
    2. Remove the air intake duct and hoses connected to the throttle body
    3. Disconnect any electrical connections from the throttle body
    4. If necessary, remove the throttle body completely (requires removing four bolts in many models)
    5. Spray throttle body cleaner on the throttle plate and inside surfaces
    6. Gently scrub away carbon deposits with a soft brush
    7. Wipe away residue with clean towels
    8. Reassemble all components

Some Seat Leon owners use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning both the throttle body and MAF sensor, which can be an effective alternative to commercial throttle body cleaners.

    Connection to Fuel Consumption

A dirty throttle body can indeed lead to higher fuel consumption in your Seat Leon. When carbon deposits and grime build up on the throttle plate and surrounding areas, they can:

    1. Disrupt proper airflow into the engine
    2. Cause the throttle plate to stick or not close completely
    3. Create an improper air-fuel mixture
    4. Lead to rough idling and inconsistent performance

Cleaning the throttle body can help restore proper airflow and potentially improve fuel economy by allowing the engine management system to more accurately control the air-fuel ratio. A properly functioning throttle body helps ensure your Seat Leon's engine operates at optimal efficiency, which can translate to better fuel economy.

Regular maintenance of this component, especially for older Seat Leon models, can be a worthwhile procedure if you've noticed increased fuel consumption or rough idle conditions.
