Replacing starter HYUNDAI GENESIS Coupe

Hello all, hope you’re well. So I’ve got a ’11 genesis coupe 2.0T. I’m trying to replace the starter. In order to get the old one out and the new one in, it looks like I need to move the motor mount bracket. It has 4 14mm bolts. 2 on the left 2 on the right.  I cannot find a way to get to the bottom left hand side one. I’ve disconnected my radiator hose, the fuse box, a couple brackets, and a bunch of different wiring clips to try to gain access to the bolt, without any luck. The next thing I see will be my alternator that I need to move? Does anyone have any experience with this, that could tell me if there’s something I’m not doing, or something I need to do in order to be able to reach that last bolt? I’ve been at this for 3 days trying to figure out how to get to it. I just keep removing things in order to try to get access. ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated ???!!!

Replacing the starter on a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T can indeed be challenging, especially when it comes to accessing all the motor mount bracket bolts. Based on your description, you're facing a common issue with this particular model.

For the 2011 Genesis Coupe 2.0T, the starter replacement process does require moving the motor mount bracket with its four 14mm bolts. The bottom left bolt is notoriously difficult to access due to the tight engine bay configuration.

Accessing the Difficult Bottom Left Bolt

You've already taken several correct steps by disconnecting the radiator hose, fuse box, and removing various brackets and wiring clips. However, to access that troublesome bottom left bolt, you may need to:

    1. Support the engine properly - Before completely removing the motor mount bracket, ensure you have the engine supported with a jack and a block of wood to distribute pressure evenly on the oil pan.

    2. Alternator access - Yes, you may need to loosen (not necessarily remove) the alternator to gain better access to that bolt. This is a common requirement for this job on the Genesis Coupe.

    3. Special tools consideration - A flexible-head ratchet with extension and swivel socket might help reach the bolt from a different angle. Some owners have reported success using a long extension with a universal joint.

    Additional Tips

    - Make sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting any work if you haven't already.
    - When purchasing a replacement starter, ensure it's compatible with your specific model year. Prices typically range from around $170 for remanufactured units.
    - The starter location on the Genesis Coupe 2.0T is on the passenger side of the engine, tucked behind various components, making this job particularly challenging.
    - Some owners have found it easier to access from below the vehicle rather than from the top.

This is definitely one of the more challenging starter replacements due to the tight engine bay configuration in the Genesis Coupe. The job is doable with patience and the right tools, but it does require significant disassembly to gain proper access.
