Does anyone have a step-by-step guide on how to replace ignition glow plugs on a V40 D3 2013 era? Would be much appreciated – thanks

    1. Open the hood. Unscrew the 6 screws of the flange on the front side of the intake manifold cover and 2 screws at the back

    2. Lift the battery cover in the upper right corner and move it slightly to the right

    3. With a rectangular screwdriver, loosen the throttle clamp in the lower right corner and disconnect the throttle pipe

    4. Lift the intake manifold cover and temporarily tie it with a rope to the top of the hood

    5. Unscrew the 2 screws on the left of the timing belt cover (where is the oil fill cap) to gain access to the fifth candle

    6. Change the spark plugs in turn, unscrew two screws from the ignition coil.
carefully raise the ignition coil. If there is a lot of dirt inside the candle well, you can vacuum it. And using a 16 candle wrench, unscrew the candle.

    7. We put a new plug and tighten, and carefully put on the ignition coil

    8. We collect everything back. Install the timing belt cover and fix it with 2 screws

    9. Fix the inlet upper manifold and tighten the flange screws.

    10. We put on the throttle tube. Fastening the throttle clamp

    11. Put back the battery cover.

Here is a step-by-step guide to replacing the ignition glow plugs on a Volvo V40 D3 from around 2013:

    1. Preparation
    - Open the hood of your V40.
    - Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any electrical issues.
    - Remove the engine cover if present, to expose the engine’s top.

    2. Accessing the Glow Plugs
    - Lift the battery cover or side trim in the upper right corner under the hood if it obstructs access.
    - Locate the glow plugs on the engine. On the 2.0 D3 engine, the glow plugs are under or near the fuel rail on top of the engine, each connected to an electrical connector.

    3. Disconnect Electrical Connectors
    - Carefully unplug the electrical connectors on each glow plug by grabbing the plastic housing, not the wires, to avoid damage.

    4. Remove the Glow Plugs
    - Use an 8mm glow plug socket (special deep socket with possible slight flexibility or extension to reach the plugs).
    - Loosen the glow plug slowly by hand once the socket is fitted to ensure threads are free and avoid breaking the plug.
    - Unscrew the glow plug fully and remove it carefully.

    5. Inspect and Prepare Replacement Glow Plugs
    - Compare the new glow plugs with the old ones to ensure correct size and type.
    - It is recommended to apply a small amount of copper grease on the threads of the new glow plugs to prevent corrosion and ensure good sealing.

    6. Install New Glow Plugs
    - Screw in the new glow plugs by hand carefully to avoid cross-threading.
    - Tighten with the socket wrench lightly, torque is generally around 8-10 Nm (Newtons meters).
    - Avoid overtightening to prevent damage.

    7. Reconnect Electrical Connectors
    - Plug the electrical connectors back onto the glow plugs securely.

    8. Reassemble
    - Replace the battery cover or any trim parts removed.
    - Reinstall the engine cover.
    - Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

    9. Test
    - Start the engine and check for any warning lights or issues.
    - If the engine starts smoothly and no glow plug fault codes appear, the replacement is successful.

    Additional tips:
    - Replace all glow plugs at once as one failing plug often means others are near failure.
    - Use penetrating oil on the glow plug threads and allow it some time to soak if the plugs are difficult to loosen.
    - Avoid pulling on wires; always handle connectors by their housings.
    - Using a proper glow plug socket is important as standard sockets may not fit or grip well.

A detailed visual and practical demonstration can be found in a helpful YouTube video specifically on Volvo D3 glow plugs replacement showing these tools and techniques in action.

    Torque specifications and tools needed:
