Two questions 1. how do i replace the right hand side front indicator bulb?
Question 2 . the boot locks but the 4 doors donโt.
- @Neil.HugheS30.12.2025 12:15Memberquestion 2 a bit vague innit, if boot locks but doors dont could be the actuators in the doors themselves or dodgy wiring. had similar with my old Passat turned out one actuator was knackered and messing with the whole system
- @Ian_Edwards30.12.2025 12:21Memberon the indicator bulb mate open bonnet look directly behind the orange light on the right side youll see the bulb socket with wires, just twist it counterclockwise quarter turn and pull out then pull bulb straight out of socket dead easy ๐
- @"GORDON-ABBOTT"30.12.2025 12:26Member@Museltook1984 needs more info on question 2 tho, does it lock with key in door or just remote not working? makes difference if its key fob or actuator problem
- @KE-VIIIN30.12.2025 12:31Memberreplaced mine last month from engine bay took like 5 mins proper simple job. right side bit tighter space than left but still manageable. used osram bulbs lasted well so far
- @T0NY=BAK3R30.12.2025 12:40Member@"GORDON-ABBOTT" good point that, if manual key works but remote doesnt then probably fob battery or dodgy receiver module
- @lee____white30.12.2025 12:44Membercentral locking drama sounds like classic actuator failure to me. my mates Golf had exact same thing where boot worked fine but all 4 doors refused to lock from remote, turned out the drivers door actuator was dead and somehow blocking signal to other doors
had to replace it and system came back to life. thing is with VAG cars especially the actuators wear out after like 80k miles and when one goes it can affect the whole circuit cause theyre wired in series or something
check this tho before throwing money at actuators, get someone to press lock button while you listen at each door carefully, if you hear clicking or buzzing from one door but it doesnt lock thats your culprit right there. also worth checking fuses first obviously, central locking fuse usually in passenger footwell fusebox or under bonnet depends on model - @StuartMorris2330.12.2025 16:10Member@Ian_Edwards spot on with the instructions, only thing id add is dont touch the new bulb glass with bare hands oils from skin can make it blow quicker, use tissue or gloves when handling
- @[craig_mills]30.12.2025 16:57Member@lee____white proper detailed that cheers mate, didnt know about the series wiring thing explains why one actuator can kill the lot
- @J/OWEN31.12.2025 13:12Memberwhich car we talking about here anyway? procedure varies quite a bit between manufacturers like on my old Astra front indicators were accessed through wheel arch not engine bay total pain
- @A_Graham31.12.2025 13:27Member@T0NY=BAK3R yep fob battery first thing to check, costs like nothing and takes 30 seconds to swap out before diving into complicated diagnostics
- @colin_gray3431.12.2025 18:21Member@lee____white 80k for actuator failure sounds about right, had same mileage when mine went on a Mondeo, used Bosch replacement actuator been solid ever since couple years now no issues
- @SeanWebB01.01.2026 16:35Member@Museltook1984 so for the doors issue if boot locks fine that rules out fob and main locking module yeah? means problems definitely in door circuit somewhere, could be one bad actuator or wiring issue in door hinge rubber boot where wires flex constantly and break over time seen that loads
- @Ph1l1pF1sher02.01.2026 15:16Memberindicator bulb replacement general rule push and twist counterclockwise to release from socket, new one goes in reverse push and twist clockwise till it clicks simple as. test it before closing everything back up tho ๐
- @RAYMONDshaw02.01.2026 15:29Member@SeanWebB exactly right about hinge wiring, specially on older motors where rubbers all perished, wires get exposed and short out or break completely, worth pulling door rubber boot back and inspecting wires for damage or corrosion on connectors
