I have a Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16 Valve M Reg. Can the bushes and sprockets on the rear anti roll bar be easily changed in situ, or do I need to dismantle some other bits first?

Thanks,

Eric

Yeah mate done mine last year - bushes come off dead easy actually. Just jack it up, spray some WD on the mounting bolts and they slide right off. The bracket has two bolts holding it, 16mm spanner does the job. Took me about 45 mins both sides in my driveway

Depends how rusty yours are tbh. Mine were proper seized so I had to remove the exhaust heat shield first to get proper access, bit of a faff but nothing major

@user_60235 Should be straightforward Eric, bushes just unbolt from the chassis mounting. I'd recommend getting some poly bushes while you're at it, last way longer than the standard rubber ones

@NoahT Aye same here, heat shield was in the way. Also had to drop the rear beam slightly on one side to wiggle the bar out properly, but didn't need to disconnect anything else just loosened the mounting bolts

@QUIETVOICES Didn't need to do that on mine, maybe the earlier models are different? Mine's an N reg so maybe slightly newer than Eric's

I'd say get under there with a torch first before you start - if the bracket bolts look crusty you'll want to soak them overnight otherwise they might snap off. Happened to my mate on his Astra, not fun drilling them out

The bushes themselves are easy peasy, it's getting to them that can be annoying. I ended up taking the wheel off obviously and jacking the suspension up a bit to take the tension off. Whole job was maybe an hour including the cuppa break

@user_60235 Watch out for the alignment mark on the bar when you take it off Eric! There's usually a V-shape or line marking where it sits, you need to put it back exactly the same way or your handling will be all over the place

Had a nightmare with mine - mechanic didn't mark the position properly when he changed them and I had vibrations on the motorway after. Had to take it back, he repositioned the bar and sorted it. So yeah definitely mark it before removal!

@JAS.MORRIS Hour?? Lucky you! Took me nearly three because one of the bushes was absolutely welded on with rust. Ended up drilling through the old rubber to weaken it then hammering it out. New ones pressed in fine though with a bit of washing up liquid as lube

@G.Hill.M That's interesting never thought about the alignment being that critical on the rear ARB, always just worried about that on the front end. Good to know cheers
