Servicing PAS pump. Is there a bleed valve on the body of the steering gear, if so best way to bleed system please?

The best way to bleed the power steering system is as follows:
- Fill the PAS fluid reservoir with the recommended power steering fluid.
- With the engine off, raise the front wheels and support the car securely on jack stands.
- Turn the steering wheel fully left to right slowly about 10 to 15 times. This helps move fluid through the system and starts to purge air.
- Locate the bleed valve on the steering rack or gear. It might look like a small nipple or bolt.
- Loosen the bleed valve slightly to allow trapped air to escape while turning the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock.
- Keep an eye on the PAS fluid level in the reservoir, topping up as needed to prevent it running dry.
- Tighten the bleed valve once no more air bubbles escape.
- Start the engine and repeat turning the wheel lock to lock several more times to fully circulate fluid and remove air.
- Recheck the fluid level and top up if necessary.
If the system is hard to bleed or airs keep coming back, using a vacuum pump on the reservoir during bleeding can help evacuate stubborn air pockets.
Many DIY videos and guides emphasize the importance of not letting the pump run dry during bleeding and doing the wheel turning slowly and fully to fully release trapped air.
This method ensures your PAS pump and steering gear system are properly bled and functioning smoothly without noise or assistance loss.Spare parts for your VAUXHALLWorking on a VAUXHALL? Find parts and accessories suitable for your vehicle in the AUTODOC shop:
