I’m looking for advice on choosing the best family car for UK roads and am considering the 2015 Toyota Highlander. How does it handle narrow lanes and wet weather? Is the boot space sufficient for family trips? Any reliability issues I should be aware of?

If you have any better options with arguments, I’d love to hear them!

The Toyota Highlander is renowned for its exceptional reliability, making it a popular choice among off-road vehicles. It performs well even in damp climates, with no significant issues reported regarding the wiring or body, ensuring durability in challenging conditions. The vehicle offers a spacious trunk, providing ample storage for long trips or daily use. However, its larger size can present challenges when navigating narrow roads or confined spaces, which may require extra caution and skill.

Here’s the advice on the 2015 Toyota Highlander and alternative family cars for UK roads without using tables:

2015 Toyota Highlander for UK Family Use
Handling Narrow Lanes and Wet Weather:
The Highlander is a midsize SUV, roughly 4.9 meters long, which can feel quite large on narrow UK lanes and in tight urban spaces. Maneuvering may require extra caution compared to smaller SUVs or hatchbacks. However, it performs well in wet weather thanks to its stable chassis and available all-wheel drive, providing good traction and confidence on slippery roads.

    Boot Space for Family Trips:
Boot space is generous, especially when the third-row seats are folded down. With all seats up, the boot is smaller but still practical for everyday family needs. The 7-seat layout makes it very suitable for larger families or those needing extra passenger capacity, and it can accommodate luggage and gear comfortably on longer trips.

    Reliability:
The 2015 Highlander is known for its strong reliability record. Owners often report minimal mechanical issues even after high mileage. Routine maintenance is straightforward and affordable. Some minor electronic quirks like radio connectivity issues and occasional paint wear have been noted but don’t impact the vehicle’s overall dependability. If you consider a hybrid version, Toyota’s hybrid system is well-proven and durable.

Alternative Family Cars Better Suited for UK Roads
If you’re concerned about the Highlander’s size or want more modern features and warranties, here are some excellent alternatives:
    - Skoda Kodiaq: Offers spacious 7-seat accommodation and excellent boot space. It handles well and is easier to maneuver on narrow roads compared to the Highlander. The interior is practical, though perhaps less luxurious.

    - Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: This model provides a comfortable ride with good technology and a 7-seat option. It is more compact than the Highlander, making it easier to drive and park in tight spaces, though boot space is slightly smaller.
    - Kia Sorento: Known for its strong 7-year warranty, the Sorento combines good value with a spacious interior. It’s a bit large but offers good maneuverability and modern features, making it a strong family SUV choice.
    - Peugeot 5008: Stylish and practical, the 5008 comes with a great infotainment system and 7 seats. It’s easier to handle on narrow roads and offers a comfortable ride, though engine options may be less powerful than some rivals.

The 2015 Toyota Highlander is a reliable, spacious, and safe family SUV with good wet-weather capability and ample boot space. Its main challenge on UK roads is its larger size, which can make navigating narrow lanes and parking more difficult. If you prioritize legendary Toyota reliability and need a roomy 7-seater, it’s a solid choice.

However, if you want something easier to maneuver with more modern tech and longer warranties, consider alternatives like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Kia Sorento, or Peugeot 5008. Test driving these models on typical UK roads will help you decide which fits your family’s needs best.
