Hi.

What are the torque specs for the throttle body and egr valve bolts?

For the 1.4 4d4 diesel engine

Thanks

Hey mate, for the 1.4 D-4D diesel, most folks do the throttle body bolts to around 7 Nm and the EGR valve bolts close to 10-12 Nm if you want to play it safe. Don’t overtighten, they're small bolts sitting in aluminum, so just snug plus a quarter turn by hand usually works for me.

+1 to what @a_d_g_r_a_m said, I installed mine last year, did both throttle body and EGR at 9 Nm with a 1/4" wrench. Never had loosening or any issues. If you don’t have a torque wrench, just go gently – a stripped thread is a pain to sort out later.

@mar-mur Absolutely, stripped the EGR bolt years ago thinking “tighter is better”. Not the case, just do it like a spark plug—snug by hand, then a little more. Learned the hard way, trust me!

Yeah, I did throttle body bolts to 7-8 Nm, EGR to about 10 Nm. Both are easy to overtighten. For the EGR make sure you seat the gasket straight, otherwise you’ll get a whistle at idle.

If you use a small ratchet, you’ll avoid the temptation to overtighten. Did this job for my neighbor last week, similar torque on his Corolla with the same engine – running smooth, no leaks.

Tightening by feel works if you’re careful. Did mine just by tightening with two fingers on the ratchet handle, haven’t had a problem since.

Used a cheap torque wrench, did both throttle body and EGR at 8 Nm. Hasn't budged in 35k km, so should be plenty.

Hand-tight’s always worked for me, but I always double check the bolts after a couple days. Sometimes the gasket settles and you can re-torque slightly.

Don’t overthink it! As long as you’re not cranking down, it’s hard to mess up. A quarter turn after touch is what my old man always says.

For anyone doing it solo for the first time – recheck for leaks or whistling after a drive, sometimes the EGR seats weird.

I prefer to torque throttle body to 7 Nm and EGR bolts to about 10 Nm on my Auris. Same engine, never had issues. Good luck!

Did this plenty of times, never used an exact spec, just careful hand pressure and retorque after a week. Never ever stripped one!
