Kia cerato 2010 KIA Cerato Hatchback (YD)
@Samoke8512.02.2021 09:41MemberI changed, and I also asked if I needed to use which kind of flushing, to which I was answered no, this is not necessary.- @G. Cole03.10.2025 06:41MemberFor your 2010-2011 Kia Cerato, here is the information regarding transmission oil and servicing:
1. Oil requirement when changing transmission or gearbox:
- The total transmission oil capacity for manual gearbox is roughly around 1.9 liters (about 2 liters) for models with 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmissions.
- Automatic transmissions typically require much more oil, but it is nowhere near 8 cans of oil (assuming standard 1-liter cans). The exact amount varies by transmission model, but usually between 5 to 7 liters.
- The 8 cans mentioned might be confusion with automatic transmission fluid refill for other vehicles or with engine oil capacities.
2. Is it mandatory to flush out the first oil?
- It is highly recommended to flush or drain all old transmission oil when replacing or changing the gearbox to avoid mixing old degraded oil with new oil.
- Flushing ensures contaminants and metal particles from the old gearbox are removed, improving longevity and smooth operation.
- Some workshops use a fluid exchange machine or multiple drain and refill cycles to get rid of old fluid completely, but a full flush is generally advisable.
- You typically need around 2 liters for a manual gearbox oil refill, and more for automatic, but not 8 cans unless the can size is very small.
- Always fully drain or flush the old oil before refilling with fresh transmission oil.
If your transmission is automatic, check the exact model and capacity in your manual for the correct amount and type of fluid (e.g. Dexron VI or specific Kia recommended ATF).
