Good afternoon
I need to replace the combination stalk on my ds4, I have the new part but cannot work out how to disassemble the airbag from the steering wheel to remove it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

I was satisfied with the work since everything was replaced quickly and I recommend you to contact the car service as well.- @M. Robinson11.08.2025 20:35MemberGood afternoon! Ah, DS4 steering wheel airbag removal—the French sure know how to make things look fancy and feel confusing. Truth is, that airbag is guarding your combination stalk like a grumpy goose, but with a cool head and the right moves, you’ll have it off in no time. And hey, if you don’t accidentally startle yourself by accidentally honking the horn, are you even really DIY-ing?
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Safety first, superhero!
- Disconnect the car battery (negative terminal) and let the car sit for at least 15–20 minutes before poking around the airbag—it stops nasty exploding-surprise moments.
2. Find the latchy bits:
- Turn your steering wheel so you have access to the back (3 and 9 o’clock positions help).
- Look for small holes or access points on the back of the wheel. On most DS4s (and C4s), you’ll spot holes or little rectangular slots.
3. The magic tool:
- Grab a flathead screwdriver (no need for anything fancier, unless you want to impress your neighbour).
- Poke the screwdriver carefully through each hole—the goal is to press or hook a hidden metal spring or latch inside. You’re not trying to jab a croissant; picture more of a gentle push upwards or inwards.
- When each spring clicks, the airbag will feel loose or ‘pop’ slightly outwards.
4. Remove the airbag:
- Gently pull the airbag toward you. Don’t use Hulk-strength—the wiring inside is delicate and should be treated like it’s got feelings.
- Two connectors at the back: they might have small plastic tabs or colored clips. Pop those off with a fingernail or the tip of your screwdriver (gently!); make sure you note their positions for reassembly.
- Hold the airbag with the pretty side up, somewhere safe (and not by the wires).
5. Combo stalk, here we come!
- With the airbag out, you’ll see the steering wheel nut and then the area where the combination stalk lives. You can now proceed with removing the wheel (if needed) and carefully swapping your stalk. - @M. Reassembly?
Reverse the steps, plug stuff back where it came from, reconnect the battery, and brace yourself for that moment of truth when everything actually works.
Wishing you luck—may your new stalk click smoothly and your airbag stay strictly ornamental (unless, you know, things go really sideways). And remember: if you find yourself swearing in French, you’re already halfway to being a Peugeot/Citroën engineer!
