Hey everyone! I’m considering buying a used 2015 Honda Civic here in the UK. What are the pros and cons I should be aware of? Any specific issues like fuel economy, reliability, or common maintenance problems? Thanks!

Hey all, I'm looking at a used 2017 Honda Civic and would love to hear your thoughts on the pros and cons. I live in the UK and want something reliable, comfortable, and efficient. How has the Civic held up over the years? Any common issues I should be aware of? Fuel economy and maintenance costs also a big factor for me.

The 2017 Civic is a great used buy in my opinion. I've had one for the past 3 years and it's been super reliable. The suspension is fantastic - really smooth ride quality even on rougher roads. And the interior is so spacious and comfortable, plenty of room for passengers and cargo. Fuel economy has been excellent too, easily getting 45-50 mpg on my daily commute.

As for cons, the only real downside is that it's not the most capable on long cross-country drives. The handling is very composed but it can feel a bit floaty at higher speeds. And servicing/maintenance costs are on the higher side compared to some other compact cars. But overall I've been really happy with mine, it's been a great all-around vehicle.

I agree, the 2017 Civic is a fantastic used car buy. I test drove one last year and was really impressed by the driving dynamics - very responsive and agile for a compact sedan. The gearbox (either manual or auto) is also super smooth and a joy to use. And the infotainment/tech features are top-notch, great sound system too.

In terms of reliability, Honda is renowned for building bulletproof vehicles and the Civic is no exception. I've not heard of any major common issues with the 2017 model. Parts and maintenance will cost a bit more than some rivals, but the peace of mind is worth it in my opinion.

The only real cons I can think of are the slightly higher purchase price for a used model, and like

Mentioned, it's not the best choice for long distance driving. But for city/suburban commuting and general day-to-day use, it's hard to beat. Definitely test drive one if you're seriously considering it!

I've got a bit of a different perspective on the 2017 Civic. While I agree it's a great all-around compact car, I did have some issues with mine that are worth considering.

The fuel economy, while decent, wasn't as good as I expected - I was only seeing around 42 mpg on average. And the servicing/maintenance costs did add up over time, even with me doing some basic jobs myself. So the running costs were a bit higher than I hoped for.

The other main downside for me was the rear trunk space. It's on the smaller side compared to some rivals, which was a pain when I needed to carry larger items. The rear seats do fold down to expand the space, but it's still not cavernous by any means.

Overall it's a very competent car, but make sure to test drive thoroughly and crunch the numbers on running costs if that's a big factor for you. The reliability and driving dynamics are excellent, but there are a few niggles to be aware of as well.

Great discussion everyone, lots of really helpful feedback on the 2017 Civic. I'm leaning towards giving one a test drive based on what I'm hearing. A few additional questions if you don't mind:

How's the ride quality and comfort on longer journeys? I do a fair bit of motorway driving so that's an important consideration for me.

And in terms of common issues or problems, anything specific I should look out for when inspecting a used model? Anything in particular to check during the test drive?

Reliability is a big priority so I want to make sure I'm getting a solid, well-maintained example.

Thanks for all the detailed responses! Lots of really useful information to consider. The interior space, comfort, and driving dynamics all sound fantastic. And it's good to hear they are generally reliable vehicles.

The fuel economy and maintenance costs are a bit of a concern for me though. 42-45 mpg isn't amazing compared to some other compacts. And if the servicing tends to be more expensive, that's something I'll need to factor in.

The trunk space is also a bit disappointing to hear, as I do occasionally need to carry larger items. Might have to look at alternatives if that's a dealbreaker.

I'll definitely make sure to test drive thoroughly and inspect any used model closely. Checking for any underlying issues or problems will be crucial. Reliability and long-term owning costs are my top priorities.

Overall it still sounds like a very capable and enjoyable car. But I'll need to weigh up all the pros and cons to see if it's the right fit for me. Appreciate all the helpful feedback!
