Front wiper linkage BMW X3 (E83)

I need to replace my wiper linkage. 

I have removed both arms and filter unit but how do I get to the actual linkage.

Plastic unit which fits close to glass seems unwilling to come off.

Suggestions please

      To access the wiper linkage, you may need to remove the plastic cowl panel near the base of the windshield. Look for hidden fasteners and clips, and gently pry or unscrew them to release the panel for access to the linkage.
