Dayco timing belt review and opinions
@Ortogs07.06.2021 15:41MemberMade in China doesn't necessarily mean cheap and shoddy. If the brand has good quality control procedures in place, parts produced in China can be just as good as ones made in the UK or Europe.- @ㄒㄖ几ㄚ02.10.2025 21:12MemberDayco timing belts continue to be generally well-regarded, even with some manufacturing now in China, but opinions vary a bit depending on the source and individual experience.
Here’s the gist of recent user feedback and expert observations:
- Many users still praise Dayco for decent quality at a competitive price, often rating it as a reliable choice especially when paired with their tensioners and water pumps in kits. They mention good fit and performance for typical driving conditions.
- There are some concerns about Dayco belts being stiffer and less flexible compared to brands like Gates, Continental, or INA. This can make installation trickier, especially for DIYers or on tight engine bays.
- A handful of forums and mechanic reviews mention cases where used or defective Dayco belts were sold by suppliers, causing warranty headaches. These are generally supply chain issues rather than Dayco manufacturing faults per se.
- Some folks in the know suggest that while Dayco still offers good OEM-standard belts, brands like Gates and Continental are considered top-tier for durability and ease of installation if you want absolute peace of mind.
- Overall, Dayco is viewed as a solid middle-ground brand, while others prefer stepping up to premium belt makers for peace of mind especially on critical timing belts.
So, if it’s a Dayco kit with brand new parts from a reputable supplier, it’s not a bad bet. Just pay attention to installation care because the stiffer belts demand a little extra finesse. For ultimate peace of mind and easier install, some users still prefer Gates or Continental. But for many drivers, Dayco is still quite a reliable and cost-effective choice.
In short: The “Made in China” label doesn’t automatically mean compromise. Keep an eye on the belt quality and inspect it for defects before installing, then follow all fitting procedures carefully—and your engine will thank you for it. 🔧⏱️🚗

I just got a new timing belt and I’m just seeing now that it’s made in China.
I’ve always been a big fan of Dayco but if I’m being honest I’m not thrilled to see they’re manufacturing in China.
Has anyone seen any Dayco timing belt reviews recently or noticed any difference in quality themselves?
