If the aircon in your Toyota Avanza is not blowing as cold as it used to, changing and topping up the coolant might help since the coolant plays a big role in keeping the engineāand in some cases the AC condenserācool.
Hereās a simple DIY guide on how to change and top up the coolant on your Toyota Avanza:
1. Safety first: Make sure the engine is cool before you start. Hot coolant can spray out and cause burns.
2. Lift the front: Use ramps or a jack and stands to safely lift the front of the car. This helps in draining the coolant fully.
3. Drain the old coolant: Locate the radiator drain plug or detach the lower radiator hose. Place a container underneath to catch the old coolant, then loosen the drain or hose clamp and let the coolant flow out. Dispose of the old coolant properly; itās poisonous.
4. Flush the system (optional but recommended): After draining, refill the radiator with clean water and run the engine until warm with the heater on. Then drain again to flush out remaining contaminants.
5. Refill with coolant: Use Toyotaās recommended coolant (usually the Super Long Life Pink coolant). Itās often pre-mixed, so no need to add water. Pour it into the radiator or coolant reservoir slowly.
6. Bleed the system: To remove air pockets, run the engine with the radiator cap off and heater on high. You might see bubbles escaping. Keep topping up the coolant until it stabilizes.
7. Put everything back: Secure the radiator cap, lower the car, and double-check coolant levels after a short drive.
This process rejuvenates your cooling system and can improve the ACās cooling efficiency indirectly by keeping the engine chamber cooler.
If your Avanza uses a separate AC refrigerant system, remember that topping up engine coolant wonāt directly fix AC gas levels. For that, you might consider an AC recharge service.
Cool rides ahead! āļøšš§
