For your 1998 Toyota Camry, the standard headlight bulb type for both dipped and main beams is an H4 (9003) bulb, which combines high and low beams in a single unit.

    Recommendations for Brightness and Longevity
    Halogen bulbs:
The stock halogen bulbs provide adequate brightness but are relatively short-lived (typically 500–1,000 hours). Upgrading to premium halogen bulbs like Philips White Vision or Sylvania SilverStar ZXE can offer a noticeable improvement in brightness and a whiter light without major modifications.

    LED bulbs:
LED replacements for H4 bulbs are available and offer much longer lifespan (up to 30,000 hours) and significantly brighter, whiter light with better energy efficiency. However, LED conversions may require additional adapters or modifications to fit properly and ensure correct beam pattern. Brands like Narva and others provide quality H4 LED bulbs compatible with the Camry.

    HID bulbs:
High-Intensity Discharge (HID) kits offer very bright light and longer life than halogens but require a ballast and more complex installation. They are more expensive and may cause glare if not properly aligned.

    What to Avoid
Avoid cheap, no-brand bulbs that may have poor brightness, shorter lifespan, or inconsistent beam patterns.

Be cautious with LED or HID kits that do not specify compatibility with H4 sockets or your vehicle model, as improper fitment can cause poor lighting or damage.

Ensure bulbs are DOT compliant to meet safety standards and avoid glare that can blind other drivers.

    Color Temperature
Standard halogens are around 3,000–4,000K (warm white/yellowish).

White Vision or premium halogens offer around 4,200K for a whiter light.

LEDs typically range from 5,500K to 6,500K, producing a bright, cool white or bluish tint.

Choose a color temperature that balances visibility and comfort without causing glare.

For your 1998 Toyota Camry, upgrading to high-quality halogen bulbs like Philips White Vision offers a simple brightness boost and better longevity. If you want a more modern look and longer life, consider LED H4 bulbs from reputable brands, ensuring proper fitment and compliance. Avoid cheap bulbs and non-compatible LED/HID kits to maintain safety and performance.

This approach balances brightness, lifespan, and reliability for your Camry’s headlights.
