Any difference in engine noise on 1KD-FTV with DPF? - Hiace 2017 TOYOTA Hiace / Commuter Minibus (H200) (08.2004 - 05.2019)

Hi folks, I could use some insight.

I have two 2016 Hiace vans with the 1KD-FTV engine – both run perfectly. I recently picked up a 2017 Hiace, also with the 1KD-FTV, but this one has a DPF. The van runs great overall, but right from the first drive, I noticed the engine feels noticeably rougher – but only when accelerating, and only just above 2000 RPM.

Can anyone confirm if this is typical behavior for the DPF version of the 1KD-FTV? Does the DPF somehow change the way the engine runs under load?

Appreciate any thoughts or experiences you can share

This may be typical behaviour for the 1KD-FTV version with DPF. The DPF can affect engine performance under load, especially during regeneration, although you did not mention any warning lights that usually accompany this process. Rough running at certain speeds during acceleration may be related to engine management optimised for DPF operation and emissions compliance.
To be sure, it is best to consult a Toyota dealer or a qualified mechanic familiar with these engines to rule out other potential issues.
