All the parts you need to replace – Spark Plug for E-Class Coupe (C124) and other MERCEDES-BENZ models
The replacement procedure is the same for all spark plugs.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.
Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Coupe (C124). Recommended sequence of steps:
Step 1
Open the hood.
Step 2
Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
Step 3
Detach the connector from the ignition coil.
Step 4
Unscrew the ignition coil bracket. Use a drive socket #E11. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 5
Take out the ignition coil from the spark plug well.
Step 6
Unscrew the spark plugs. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
Step 7
Take out the spark plugs.
Step 8
Apply a thin layer of a special high temperature anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs.
Step 9
Install the new spark plugs into their mounting seats.
Step 10
Screw new spark plugs and tighten them. Use the spark plug socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 nm torque.
Replacement: spark plugs – MERCEDES-BENZ E-CLASS Coupe (C124). Professionals recommend:
Don't tighten the plugs with excessive force. Exceeding tightening torque can damage the thread connection. Be careful when working with a spark plug wrench. Its skewing can cause damage to the threaded connection.
Step 11
Install the ignition coil to the spark plug well. Make sure you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
Step 12
Tighten the ignition coil fastening. Use a drive socket #E11. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 12 nm torque.
Step 13
Plug in the ignition coil connector.
Step 14
Run the engine for a few minutes. This is necessary in order to make sure that the component operates properly.
Step 15
Shut off the engine.
Step 16
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 17
Close the hood.
