How to change rear shock absorber on NISSAN LEAF 1 (ZE0U) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. Tools you'll need:

                        Wire brush
                      
                        WD-40 spray
                      
                        Brake cleaner 
                      
                        Copper grease 
                      
                        Combination spanner #16
                      
                        Combination spanner #18
                      
                        Drive socket # 18 
                      
                        Wheel impact socket #21
                      
                        Torque wrench
                      
                        Tap wrench
                      
                        Plastic trim tool
                      
                        Locking pliers
                      
                        Hydraulic transmission jack
                      
                        Wheel chock

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. Tip from AUTODOC experts:

Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the rear suspension.
All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. Recommended sequence of steps:

Step 1

Open the boot lid.
Step 2

Remove the mount cap from the shock absorber upper fastener. Use a plastic trim tool.
Step 3

Loosen the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #16. Use locking pliers.
Step 4

Secure the wheels with chocks.
Step 5

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 6

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.
Step 7

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. Tip:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
Step 8

Remove the wheel.
Step 9

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 10

Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.

AUTODOC recommends:
Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Nissan Leaf ZE0
Step 11

Support the rear suspension beam. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 12

Remove the fastening bolt. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18.
Step 13

Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber.
Step 14

Remove the shock absorber.
Step 15

Remove the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. AUTODOC recommends:
Examine the shock absorber dust cap and the bump stop. Replace them if necessary. Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 16

Install the dust sleeve and the bump stop on the new shock absorber.
Step 17

Clean the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
Step 18

Treat the shock absorber mounting seats. Use copper grease.
Step 19

Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.

AUTODOC recommends:
Nissan Leaf ZE0 – To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber while screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 20

Install the fastening bolt.
Step 21

Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #18.

Step 22

Raise the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.
Step 23

Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #18. Use a drive socket #18. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 127 Nm torque.
Step 24

Remove the mounting from under the rear axle beam.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. AUTODOC experts recommend:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.
Step 25

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 26

Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 27

Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
Step 28

Install the wheel.

Replacement: shock absorbers – Nissan Leaf ZE0. Tip from AUTODOC:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 29

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #21.
Step 30

Lower the car.
Step 31

Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a combination spanner #16. Use locking pliers. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 32

Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.

Step 33

Install the mount cap on the shock absorber upper fastener.

Step 34

Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 108 nm torque.
Step 35

Remove the jacks and chocks.
Step 36

Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
