AUTODOC recommends:
- Replace the stabiliser links on BMW Z1 in pairs.
- The replacement procedure is identical for both stabiliser links on the same axle.
- Please note: all work on the car – BMW Z1 – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 3Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. BMW Z1
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Treat all joints of the stabiliser link. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer bar with the control arm. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Move the stabiliser bar aside. Use a crowbar.
- Step 9Clean all joints of the stabiliser link. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 10Remove the stabilizer rod.Replacement: anti roll bar links – BMW Z1. AUTODOC recommends:Examine the stabiliser bushes. Replace them if necessary.
- Step 11Grip the stabiliser link in a vice.Step 12Clean the mounting seats of the stabiliser link. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the fastener of the stabiliser link bracket. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14Remove the fastening bolt.
- Step 15Remove the stabiliser link bracket.
- Step 16Release the vice and remove the stabiliser link.Step 17Grip a new stabiliser link in a vice.Step 18Install the stabiliser link bracket.
- Step 19Install the fastening bolt.
- Step 20Screw in the fastener of the stabiliser link bracket. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Clean the mounting seats of the stabiliser link. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
