Replacement: shock absorbers – VW TRANSPORTER IV Box (70XA). Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- Replace both front shock absorbers at a time.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shock absorbers of the front suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – VW TRANSPORTER IV Box (70XA) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1
Secure the wheels with chocks. - Step 2
Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17. - Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.Step 4
Unscrew the wheel bolts.Replacement: shock absorbers – VW TRANSPORTER IV Box (70XA). AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. - Step 5
Remove the wheel. - Step 6
Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 7
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack. - Step 8
Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.AUTODOC recommends:If necessary, remove the rubber bush of the shock absorber. - Step 9
Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #18. Use a tap wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the shock absorber while unscrewing the fastening bolts. VW TRANSPORTER IV Box (70XA) - Step 10
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack by 10-15 cm.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: shock absorbers – VW TRANSPORTER IV Box (70XA). Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms. - Step 11
Remove the shock absorber. - Step 12
Grip the shock absorber in a vice. - Step 13
Clean the shock absorber rod fastener. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. - Step 14
Remove the shock absorber piston rod fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. - Step 15
Remove the shock absorber upper mount. - Step 16Release the vice and take out the shock absorber.Step 17
Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times. - Step 18
Install the shock absorber upper mount. - Step 19
Clean the shock absorber rod. Use WD-40 spray.
