Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually 3-5 times.
Step 22
Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and secure it.
Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W202. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight when screwing in the fastening bolts.
Step 23
Attach the lower part of the shock absorber. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 24
Remove the support from under the steering knuckle.
AUTODOC recommends:
Replacement: shock absorbers – Mercedes W202. Lower the transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging components and mechanisms.
Step 25
Lower the car.
Step 26
Tighten the shock absorber rod nut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 25 Nm torque.
Step 27
Treat the shock absorber rod fastener. Use copper grease.
Step 28
Install the wiper arm cover.
Step 29
Install the cowl grille seal.
Step 30
Remove the fender protection cover.
Step 31
Close the hood.
Step 32
Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
Step 33
Support the arm. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.
Step 34
Install the fastening bolt. Use a flat screwdriver.
Step 35
Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 55 Nm torque.
Step 36
Remove the support from under the arm.
AUTODOC recommends:
Mercedes W202 – Do not lower the transmission jack sharply to avoid damaging components and mechanisms of the car.
Step 37
Treat the shock absorber fasteners. Use copper grease.
Step 38
Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.
Step 39
Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.
