How to change front springs on MAZDA 3 BK TUTORIAL | AUTODOC

All the parts you need to replace – Springs for 3 Saloon (BK) and other MAZDA models
Coil spring

Replacement: coil springs – Mazda 3 BK. Tip from AUTODOC experts:
- Both coil springs of the front suspension should be replaced simultaneously.
- The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right coil springs of the front suspension.
- Please note: all work on the car – Mazda 3 BK – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 2Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.
- Step 3Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.
- Step 4Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mazda 3 BK
- Step 5Remove the wheel.
- Step 6Clean the stabiliser link fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 7Unscrew the fastener connecting the stabilizer link to the shock strut. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 8Remove the ABS wiring harness bracket.Step 9Remove the stabilizer rod.Step 10Remove the fastener attaching the brake hose to the shock strut. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 11Detach the brake hose from the shock strut.Step 12Clean the lower fastener connecting the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the lower fastener connecting the shock strut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14Remove the fastening bolt.Step 15Disconnect the steering knuckle from the shock absorber strut. Use a rubber mallet.
- Step 16Lower the car.
- Step 17Open the bonnet.
- Step 18Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.Step 19Clean the fasteners of the shock strut upper mount. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.Step 20Unscrew the upper fasteners of the shock strut (3 pieces). Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet wrench.AUTODOC recommends:Important! Hold the suspension strut while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Mazda 3 BK
- Step 21Remove the suspension strut.
- Step 22Set the shock absorber strut on the spring compressor tool.Replacement: coil springs – Mazda 3 BK. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Note that when using a spring compressor, spring coils need to be securely gripped, compressing the spring on the opposite sides.Ensure the correct position of the spring in the retainer.Make sure that the spring coils tightly entered the lock handles.
- Step 23Compress the spring.Step 24Treat the shock strut rod. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 25Remove the strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 26Remove the shock absorber mount, dust boot, and bump stop.AUTODOC recommends:Τhoroughly examine the shock absorber mount, dust boot, and bump stop. Replace them if necessary.
- Step 27Release the coil spring.
- Step 28Remove the spring.
- Step 29Install the spring on the shock absorber.
- Step 30Compress the spring.
- Step 31Install the mount, the boot and the bump stop on the shock absorber.
- Step 32Tighten the shock strut piston rod nut. Use a combination spanner #18. Use HEX No.H6. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 60 Nm torque.Replacement: coil springs – Mazda 3 BK. AUTODOC experts recommend:Check to make sure the spring is positioned correctly. Avoid its misalignment.
- Step 33Decompress the spring.Step 34Treat the shock strut rod. Use copper grease.
