Replacement: engine oil and filter – MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS (W460). Tip:
- Replace the oil filter every time when changing motor oil.
- Wear gloves to prevent contact with hot liquid.
- Please note: all work on the car – MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS (W460) – should be done with the engine switched off.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet.Step 2Use a fender protection cover to prevent damaging paintwork and plastic parts of the car.
- Step 3Pull up the oil dipstick.
- Step 4Unscrew the oil filler plug.
- Step 5Clean the oil filter housing cap. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 6Unscrew the fasteners of the oil filter housing cap. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 7Remove the oil filter housing cap.
- Step 8Take the oil filter out of its housing.
- Step 9Cover the oil filter housing with a microfibre towel to prevent dirt and foreign objects from getting into the system.
- Step 10Lift the car using a jack or place it over an inspection pit.Replacement: engine oil and filter – MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS (W460). AUTODOC recommends:The vehicle must be on a level surface, but if it is at an angle, the drain plug must be at the lowest point.Step 11Put a waste oil container with at least 7 l capacity under the drainage hole.
- Step 12Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 13Unscrew the drain plug. Use a drive socket #13. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 14Drain the used oil.AUTODOC recommends:Caution! The oil may be hot.Wait until the oil has completely drained from the drainage hole.
- Step 15Remove the old seal of the oil filter cap. Use a flat screwdriver.
- Step 16Clean the oil filter housing cap. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 17Install a new oil filter cap seal.Replacement: engine oil and filter – MERCEDES-BENZ G-CLASS (W460). AUTODOC experts recommend:Use only new O-rings during installation.
- Step 18Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 19Screw in the new drainage plug and tighten it. Use a drive socket #13. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 30 Nm torque.
- Step 20Clean the area of the oil pan drainage hole. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 21Lower the car.Step 22Remove the microfibre towel from the oil filter housing.
