What should you do when you're approaching traffic lights that have red and amber showing together? MINI Hatchback (R50, R53) (06.2001 - 09.2006)

Help!

Total brain freeze – what am I meant to do when traffic lights show red AND amber together? I was driving my Mini Cooper and just froze! I’m completely confused. 🤯

Ah, the old red and amber combo - it can be confusing! When you see those lights, it means the green signal is about to come up, so you need to start preparing to move forward. But don't just gun it yet!

The rules are, you should slow down and be ready to go when the lights turn green. You don't want to be caught out if the lights change before you reach the junction. Take it easy, stay alert, and get ready to move once that green light appears.

Yeah, I can see how that combo could throw you off! The key thing to remember is that the red and amber lights together are a warning that the green light is about to show.

You'll want to start slowing down and get ready to move, but don't just plow through the intersection. Treat it like an amber light - proceed with caution and be ready to stop if needed. Don't rush, take your time, and make sure you're in the correct lane too.

Okay, that makes sense. So I should slow down and get ready, but not just gun it through the lights. Gotta be ready but also cautious. Good to know I shouldn't have just frozen up there! Definitely want to avoid any penalties or accidents.

Exactly! It's all about striking the right balance. Slow down, get ready, but don't just blast through. Take it nice and steady, check your surroundings, and be prepared to stop if needed.

The red and amber combo is kind of an in-between stage, so you need to be extra alert and ready to react. Don't panic, but also don't get complacent. Just focus on being safe and getting through the lights smoothly.

Definitely, that combo can catch you off guard if you're not expecting it. But as long as you know what to do - slow down, get ready, but don't just floor it - you'll be fine.

It's all about being aware of the traffic light sequence and following the rules of the road. Take your time, stay focused, and you'll get through those tricky light changes no problem. Just gotta keep that situational awareness up!

Great, thanks so much for the advice! I feel a lot more confident now about handling that red and amber combo. No more freezing up for me - I'll be sure to slow down, get ready, but still proceed with caution. Really appreciate you taking the time to walk me through the proper steps.

No problem at all! Glad we could help clear things up. Traffic lights can be tricky, especially when you get those less common combinations. But as long as you know the rules and stay alert, you'll be navigating them like a pro in no time.

Just remember - slow down, get ready, but don't rush it. Safety first! And if you're ever unsure, it's always better to err on the side of caution. Drive safe out there!

Absolutely, safety has to be the top priority. Those traffic light rules might seem straightforward, but it's easy to get thrown off when you encounter something a bit unusual.

Just take your time, follow the guidelines, and don't be afraid to double-check if you're ever unsure. Better to be cautious than to risk an accident or violation. Keep practicing, and those light changes will become second nature before you know it!
