Hey folks, thinking about picking up a Range Rover Evoque but I’ve heard some mixed reviews. Are there specific years I should steer clear of? Any common issues or dodgy models I should know about? Cheers for your help!

When considering a Range Rover Evoque, there are specific model years and common issues to be aware of to avoid potential problems.

Model Years to Be Cautious About
    - Avoid 2014 models due to prevalent electrical issues.
    - Early diesels before 2019 had timing chain and tensioner problems, but these were resolved in models from 2019 onward with revised components.
    - Some issues are more common in 2018-2019 models, such as fuel rail leaks and incorrect fuel gauge readings.

    Common Problems Across Various Years
    Engine Issues
    - Turbocharger failures, especially in early diesel models, causing power loss, black smoke, and whining noises.
    - Engine oil leaks near the oil pan and valve cover, which can lead to performance loss and damage if untreated.
    - Timing chain wear or loosening can cause rattling and risk engine failure, particularly in older models before 2019.

    Transmission Issues
    - Rough gear shifts and transmission slippage, often due to outdated software or failing components like shift solenoids.
    - Some cases require costly repairs or replacements.

    Electrical System Faults
    - Recalls for damaged wiring harnesses causing short circuits in models from 2015-2016.
    - Problems with infotainment, stop-start systems, and warning lights such as the front passenger airbag.
    - Software errors causing inaccurate speedometer and odometer readings, notably in 2020 models.

    Suspension and Steering
    - Premature wear of suspension components like front control arms and drive shafts leading to clunking noises, vibrations, and handling issues.
    - Some reports of loss of steering control in earlier models.

    Exterior and Interior
    - Paint peeling, corrosion, water leaks through door seals, rattling interior parts, and malfunctioning power seats.
    - Safety concerns in 2020 models including improperly installed headliners and defective seat belts.

    Specific Recalls and Safety Issues
    - Fuel rail leaks in 2016-2018 models requiring replacement of the fuel rail.
    - Faulty tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in some 2018 convertibles.
    - Defective engine routing harness in 2017 diesel models causing engine stalls and brake issues.

    Recommendations
    - Prefer models from 2019 onward for improved timing chain reliability and updated components.
    - Always check for recalls and whether the vehicle has had necessary repairs done, especially for fuel leaks and electrical wiring.
    - Consider having a Land Rover dealer or specialist inspect the car, particularly for software updates and complex repairs.
    - Be cautious with early models (2011-2014) due to higher incidence of mechanical and electrical issues.

In summary, while the Range Rover Evoque offers luxury and style, it has a history of mechanical, electrical, and suspension issues, especially in earlier models and certain years like 2014. Opting for later models from 2019 onward and ensuring thorough inspections and maintenance can mitigate many common problems.
