Hey folks, I’m thinking about getting a Porsche Panamera, but I’ve heard some years can be a bit dodgy. Could anyone share their thoughts on which model years to steer clear of and why? Cheers for any tips!

When considering a Porsche Panamera, it's important to be aware of certain model years that have been reported to have more issues and may be best to avoid.

Porsche Panamera Years to Steer Clear Of:
    - 2010-2012 models (1st generation): These early years experienced several problems such as engine and transmission troubles, electrical glitches, and multiple recalls. Notably, engine oil leaks and PCM (Powertrain Control Module) reboot issues were common.
    - 2016 model year: This year had a recall related to suspension issues and some electronic malfunctions.
    - The 2011 model year is often singled out as particularly problematic due to teething issues common in first-year production batches.

    Best Model Years:
    - 2014 and onwards show marked improvements with reduced frequency of issues.
    - 2017, 2018, and 2019 models receive good reliability scores and benefit from refinements in design, engines, and electronics.
    - Second-generation Panameras (starting 2017) are generally regarded as more reliable and technologically advanced.

    Common Problems in Older Panameras:
    - PCM or engine management software glitches leading to warning lights.
    - Issues with air suspension components causing rough ride or sagging.
    - Electrical system malfunctions including infotainment freezes.
    - Camshaft adjuster bolt issues particularly in V8 models from early production years.

    Advice:
    - If considering an early Panamera (2010-2012), ensure a thorough inspection by a Porsche specialist.
    - Review full maintenance and recall history carefully.
    - Prefer newer models from the second generation onwards for better reliability and ownership experience.

The Porsche Panamera is a luxurious and powerful car, but like many complex vehicles, it has its own nuances that depend on the year of manufacture.
It's best to avoid the first-generation Porsche Panamera (970) from 2009-2012.
These cars were known to have issues with their V8 engines (cylinder wear) and early versions of the PDK transmission (mechatronics issues).

    More reliable options:
    Panamera after 2013 (post-facelift).
    Second-generation Panamera after 2017.

Be sure to have a full diagnostic performed when purchasing.
