Need to bleed the clutch. Pedal has fallen at to the ground. No matter how much I pump the pedal it just doesn’t want to come back up. Any advice? Thanks

Looks like the clutch pedal in the Mercedes A-Class is throwing a "floor is my new best friend" party, huh? When the clutch pedal falls to the floor and won’t come back up no matter how much you pump it, it’s usually a sign that air is trapped in the hydraulic system, or the slave/master cylinder has gone on a break you didn’t approve. Here's how to resurrect that stubborn pedal with a proper bleed:

    1. Locate the clutch slave cylinder under the car, usually on the right-hand side of the transmission. You’ll see a bleeder nipple there for releasing fluid and air.

    2. Don’t just pump wildly! Pumping the pedal repeatedly can actually stir up air in the system and make things worse. Instead, open the bleeder nipple with a 7mm spanner slightly (1-2 turns).

    3. Bleed in the right sequence: Have someone gently press the clutch pedal down once and hold it. While they hold it down, open the bleeder nipple to let fluid and air escape. Close the nipple before the pedal is released to prevent air back in.

    4. Repeat this methodically until no air bubbles come out and the fluid runs clear. Keep topping up the clutch master cylinder reservoir with fresh brake fluid so it never goes dry (air loves dry spots).

    5. Bonus trick for the A-Class: Some owners swear by "reverse bleeding" with a syringe (injecting fluid backward through the line to force air out) because the usual way sometimes leaves stubborn air pockets trapped.

    6. If nothing works — check the slave or master cylinder for leaks or failure. No amount of bleeding can save a cylinder on strike!

So remember, don't work the pedal like a stubborn accordion; work the bleeder valves and the person with the pedal like a team at a slow dance. Soon, that pedal will spring up like it’s late for a meeting! 🎉🚗🕺
