Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch. AUTODOC recommends:
- Do not re-use the bearing assembly of your VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch car.
- The wheel hub bearing replacement procedure is identical for both wheels on the same axle.
- Warning! Shut down the engine before starting any work – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch.
Carry out replacement in the following order:
- Step 1Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.Step 2Secure the wheels with chocks.
- Step 3Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.
- Step 4Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.Step 5Unscrew the wheel bolts.AUTODOC recommends:To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.
- Step 6Remove the wheel.
- Step 7Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 8Clean the area where the brake hose is connected to the caliper, and the guide pins area. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.AUTODOC recommends:Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch. After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 9Clamp the brake hose off using a brake hose clamp.
- Step 10Unscrew the brake hose from the brake caliper. Use a combination spanner #11.
- Step 11Disconnect the brake hose.
- Step 12Unscrew the brake caliper fastening. Use a combination spanner #13.
- Step 13Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 14Remove the brake caliper. Use a crowbar.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch. AUTODOC experts recommend:Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them. Replace, if necessary.
- Step 15Remove the brake pads. Use a crowbar.
- Step 16Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch. Professionals recommend:After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.
- Step 17Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #E20. Use a tap wrench.
- Step 18Remove the caliper bracket.
- Step 19Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 20Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 21Remove the brake disc.Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch. Tip from AUTODOC:If necessary, use a rubber mallet.
- Step 22Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring.Step 23Clean the ABS sensor connector. Use a wire brush. Use all-purpose cleaning spray.
- Step 24Detach the ABS sensor connector. Use a crowbar.
- Step 25Clean the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 26Unscrew the hub bearing mounting. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 27Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 28Unscrew the bolt and remove the mounting bracket of the brake hose and the ABS cable. Use a drive socket #E8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 29Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
- Step 30Remove the brake disc cover.
- Step 31Clean the hub bearing mounting seat. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.
- Step 32Install the brake disc cover.
- Step 33Install the new wheel hub with a bearing.
- Step 34Tighten the wheel hub bearing fasteners. Use a drive socket #16. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 35Install the mounting bracket of the brake hose and the ABS cable. Use a drive socket #E8. Use a ratchet wrench.
- Step 36Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing. Use a drive socket #16. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.+45°Replacement: wheel bearing – VAUXHALL ASTRA Mk V (H) Sport Hatch. Tip from AUTODOC experts:Important! Be sure to use new fasteners.The wheel bearing unit must not tilt on the axle pin.
- Step 37Treat the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing. Use copper grease.
- Step 38Attach the ABS sensor connector.
